Oil tank replacement completed
on NLHC units is Labrador
St. John’s - Joan Burke, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and
Employment
and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing
Corporation
(NLHC), today announced the completion of a $59,000 fuel oil tank
replacement
project in Labrador.
“This project is part of the corporation’s overall provincial
plan,
which has been underway for the last two years, to replace all fuel oil
tanks of a 2,500 litre capacity or less by April 1, 2007, as required
under
government regulations,” said Minister Burke. This work was also
undertaken
as a proactive move to reduce potential oil leaks or damage to the
environment,
and included the removal of abandoned oil tanks”.
Through a tender awarded to CBM Construction Ltd., 29
oil tanks
were replaced on non-profit social housing units throughout various
communities
in Labrador. The work included three single, one four-unit and
four
two-unit buildings in Hopedale; nine units in Nain; four single units
in
Makkovik and a single unit in Rigolet. The project which began in June
2005 has recently been completed.
