Major renovations underway
on NLHC housing units on Watson Crescent
Extensive upgrading of
approximately $240,000 is being completed on a non-profit housing
building located on Watson Crescent, in St. John’s. Paul Shelley,
Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and minister
responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation
(NLHC), made the announcement today.
“The condition of corporate properties is an ongoing priority for
NLHC,” said Minister Shelley. “Through its annual maintenance,
modernization and improvement plan, the corporation explores all
possible funding options to ensure its social housing portfolio is
maintained to an acceptable standard that meets clients’ need and
corporate goals.”
The work being done on this 10-unit family building is being completed
by NLHC’s own maintenance crews. The refurbishments include new vinyl
siding, replacement of doors and roofing and the installation of new
windows.
“These renovations provide safe and comfortable housing conditions for
tenants, and extend the life of the province’s housing stock, it will
also generate considerable economic benefits in the housing industry,
and help to create employment opportunities,” added Minister Shelley.
The Watson Crescent project is anticipated to be completed by November
30, 2006.
