Each year Newfoundland Labrador
Housing (Housing) awards a total of nine scholarships valued at $1000
each. This year, there will be six youth scholarships awarded (two in
each of the following regions: Avalon/East, Central, Western/Labrador),
and three adult scholarships will be awarded (one in each of the three
regions).
What makes
you eligible?
To be eligible for Newfoundland
Labrador Housing's Youth or Adult Scholarship Program you must be
either:
- renting from Newfoundland Labrador Housing (if you are
applying for the youth scholarship, your legal guardian's signature
must appear on the lease; if you are applying for an adult scholarship,
your
signature must appear on the rental lease);
- receiving a rent supplement from Housing;
- receiving a mortgage subsidy from Housing (if you are
applying for the youth scholarship, your legal guardian's
signature must appear on the mortgage document; if you are applying for
an adult
scholarship, your
signature must appear on the mortgage document); or
- living in Co-op housing or Community-Based housing which is
being subsidized by Newfoundland Labrador Housing (if you are
applying for the youth scholarship, your legal guardian's
signature must appear on the occupancy agreement or lease; if you are
applying
for
an adult
scholarship, your
signature must appear on the occupancy agreement or lease).
Youth Program
You must also meet the
following eligibility requirements:
- have been a Level III high school student in 2010
(completing grade 12 in June 2010);
- be attending any post-secondary institution approved by the
Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education on a full-time basis
in the fall of 2010.
Youth scholarships will be
awarded based on the results of the Newfoundland and Labrador
Department of Education Scholarship Score which is derived from a
student's performance on the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial
Public Exams.
Adult Program
You must also meet the
following eligibility requirements:
- Must be attending or planning to attend a post-secondary
institution approved by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of
Education in the Fall of 2010; and must be enrolled in a full-time
program and be in
attendance through to December 31, 2010. This attendance must be
confirmed.
- Must submit an application form along with a written
statement outlining your interest in returning to school and your
future goals.
- Be prepared to review your statement with a Housing
representative at a local regional office. Appointments will be
scheduled after all applicants have been screened.
Note: Graduates from
Adult
Basis Education (ABE) are eligible to apply. This scholarship is not
limited to first-year students.
Adult scholarships will be awarded based on reviews that assess
initiative, need, and community involvement.

Important:
Applications for the Youth
