Newfound Roofing Ltd. has been awarded a $240,000 contract to replace the roofs and undertake related upgrades on two Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation buildings on Buckmaster’s Circle and Navy Street in St. John’s.
“These upgrades are part of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing’s annual Modernization and Improvement Program and its commitment to a continuous process of renovating social housing infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Flat roofs on the two buildings will be replaced with peaked roofs and the chimneys will be replaced. The work includes alterations to the bathroom and kitchen ventilations systems and related repairs. The anticipated completion date for this project is February 2015.

Renovations have been completed on three social housing homes on Wallace Place in St. John’s, as the result of a $186,000 contract awarded to TSG Contracting Ltd. this past fall. The work included siding, window, door and roofing replacements, as well as electrical and ventilation system upgrades.

Twenty-seven Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation properties in Nain have received new home fuel tanks as the result of a $170,000 contract awarded to Budgell’s Equipment and Rentals Ltd.
“The installation of these modern and certified home fuel tanks has provided the tenants with safer and more comfortable homes. Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation continues its systematic work on upgrading social housing properties throughout the province.”

The existing tank systems were replaced with exterior fibreglass tank systems, which greatly reduce the risk of oil spills or leaks and further protect the environment. The project was completed in November.

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) made significant progress this year in providing affordable housing options to families, seniors, single adults, persons with disabilities and persons with complex needs – with 1,000 low-income homeowners provided assistance in upgrading their homes, 240 homeowners provided funds to make accessibility modifications, and 900 households availing of the opportunity to make cost-saving retrofits to their homes. NLHC also successfully negotiated a new, unprecedented $68 million federal-provincial affordable housing agreement.
