This program is designed to help low-income homeowners who need to make repairs to their homes so they can stay in them longer.
Please note: This program has been changed and improved as of Fall 2026, so please read carefully. In order to simplify applications, NLHC has combined the previous Home Energy Savings Program (HESP) with the Home Repair Program. Repairs eligible under the previous program are now eligible under this one.
Who is eligible?
Homeowners with a combined annual income of less than $42,500 ($65,000 in Labrador), who own and have occupied their home for at least five years. This program is for people who are not NLHC clients.
If you received funding under this program more than five years ago, you can apply again. The maximum amount a homeowner can receive under this program during their lifetime is $30,000.
What types of repairs are eligible?
Minor repairs to issues or defects within the structure of the home, or the systems within it, which if left unresolved may threaten the safety of the occupants or result in them having to leave the home are eligible. This includes:

Please note: This program does not require pre- and post-inspections for these repairs.
How will I get this money?
NLHC provides funding to eligible homeowners in the form of a forgivable loan up to $10,000 to cover the cost of repairs ($13,000 in Labrador).
This forgivable loan does not need to be repaid if the homeowner remains in the home for five years. If the homeowner moves out three or four years after the repairs are made, for example, they may have to repay a portion of the loan.
